The greatest problem wee seem to be confronted with is moral relativism.
Fanatics are just that, they feel they are always right. You get them on the far right and left of the political spectrum, every religion has them and in all cases of dogmatic thinking, then the bad guy is the one who has another idea.
People who have the trait of openness to experience know that what is really true is usually unobtainable. There is no Holy Grail of Truth in politics or religion. Concerning science, at a given point it hits a kind of solid 'sound barrier' of understanding where the gathering of knowledge can go no further. Or is there a big truth we can adhere to and feel cozy?
The problem with the free thinkers is that they see absolutely no truths anymore and this comes full circle to fanatical ideas of 'there are no truths, no sense to get out of your bed anymore'. They also tend to get problems with their sense of self and get disconnected from others and the world.
This is depressing and makes no sense.
So what can get you out of bed instead of popping an anti-depressant?
There is an established order. This order comes from the language you speak, concepts you use and the emotions you feel. It can be traced back in time from the day we started to utter sounds. The emotions are either from your genetic makeup or from your parents' way of raising you as they have been raised by their parents and they by theirs, ad infinitum.
You are not 100% yourself, but you acquired a lot from your ancestors.
We have created numbers and the metric system and a currency to understand each other. These systems are amazingly complex and rooted in a lot of little truths.
The little we understand of the universe is what we have to make do with. It seems as we will never understand everything and we have to get used with living in a bubble.
The truth is that we will never get the big picture and have to look at the little things in life that makes us happy.
