In a world where there are too many ideas to understand, we use simple ideas to cut through the bs.

The many ideas are languages, political views, who you are, who others are, what life is about, what career to follow, what book to read, which series to follow on tv.

We would be utterly swamped if we wanted to watch a movie, read a book and follow the news in 10 minutes. Or jump between too many religions in a month.

There was a refugee that killed a young woman in the Netherlands. As it turned out he had no official birthday, no memory of his real parents, two different religions, was culture shocked because he came from another country. Talked another language.

I don't condone his actions, but I get that he lives in a world of confusions.

In the past there were priests, now we have parents, schools, universities and ministers to make compicated things easier to understand.

We feel secure in a world of simplicity and believing simple ideas seems a biological and psychological necessity.
