Dangers of judging others.

This picture depicts a woman being judged by elders for cheating on her husband.

Let's say she did.

The problem with this is the guys judging her.

Even though she might be guilty, the verdict might be biased. (In those days there were punishments if a partner cheats on another.)

In psychology there is an unconcious mechanism called projection.

If one of the elders has an unconcious wish to cheat on his wife, he would demonise her to deny this wish in himself.

There is another psychological mechanism that causes problems too, called reaction formation. This is where you react opposite to what you feel. So an elder might secretly like her, but she is unavailable. So he would resent her.

No way out for her.

In an old fashioned culture where things aren't allowed to be said or thought of and an excess of taboo, feelings get repressed and a woman got stoned by the unconscious mechanisms as desribed above.

Here the culprit is the culture where an unconscious monster is expressed in the innocent.
